The descent of the Gorges de l’Ardèche by canoe or kayak is accessible on condition that you respect a few prerequisites: Be in good physical condition, know how to swim, respect the safety instructions and have ensured that the conditions for descending the Gorges are appropriate.

Many service providers rent canoes or kayaks and pick you up at the end of your descent.

The Ardèche Gorges descent takes about thirty kilometres, in one or two days.
Two bivouac areas exist where you can “camp” in the Gorges de l’Ardèche, knowing that wild camping (outside these areas) is strictly forbidden.

Even if the water is usually calm and clear, the Gorges de l’Ardèche have at least fifteen rapids, That’s why it’s important not to leave your lifejacket !!

Hiking in les Gorges de l’Ardèche

The Gorges de l’Ardèche by foot is less well known than canoeing, but it is a very pleasant experience. The hike can be done in two days, spending a night in one of the two bivouacs. A marked path runs through the Gorges between Charmes and Sauze, with some fords passages (check the water level before leaving).

Sports hikers will be able to swallow the Gorges de l’Ardèche hike in ten hours, but this requires some training.
